Hypnosis Therapy in Lockport & Across Illinois.
Feel more calm, clear, and at home within yourself.
Talking about the same problems over and over might help you explain why they keep coming up, but it doesn’t really help you feel better.
You’ve probably already dissected the issues you’ve been having, maybe even with another therapist. You might even be able to recognize the moment you’re falling back into the same pattern again, but you still end up falling into it anyway, and then get mad at yourself for not being able to change. If you’re exhausted after trying everything you can think of without feeling any real results, you’re in the right place.
Hypnosis is especially helpful for…
Racing thoughts or constant “what if” loops that make it hard to focus, relax, or stay present.
Rumination, where your mind replays the same conversations, mistakes, or worries long after they’ve passed.
Emotional overwhelm that comes on fast—angry outbursts, shutting down, or being overcome by sadness or anxiety.
Stress that lives in your body, like tightness, tension, stomach issues, or never feeling fully settled.
Breaking patterns and coping habits like people-pleasing, avoiding conflict, or using things like screentime, alcohol, or “gummies” to take the edge off.
The impact of past experiences that still shape how you see yourself, others, and the world.
You are capable of moving beyond what’s holding you back—and hypnosis can help.
HOW IT WORKS
This approach helps your mind relax enough to update the patterns driving your stress and shift how you feel, not just how you think.
What is hypnosis?
The “emotional brain” (also referred to as the subconscious) is the part of your mind that holds your learned beliefs, fears, emotional memories, and automatic reactions—basically, the part that decides how you feel before you even have time to think about it. Hypnosis is a deeply relaxed, focused state where the thinking part of your mind quiets and your emotional brain becomes more open to change.
With hypnosis, that part finally gets a chance to slow down, take in new information, and update patterns it’s been holding onto for years. You’re fully awake, aware, and in control the whole time—it’s nothing like stage hypnosis or anything you’ve seen for entertainment. Instead, it’s similar to meditation but with a specific goal. Most people describe it as the first time their mind has truly “settled” in a long time.
Step 1: Helping you shift out of survival mode.
Before we use hypnosis, we’ll talk through the patterns and beliefs that keep showing up for you, so we know exactly what your emotional brain has been reacting to. Once we understand the landscape, the first step isn’t to dive into the deeper work—it’s helping your body move out of that tense, on-edge state that makes everything feel like a threat. When your nervous system is softened, you’re no longer bracing for the next thing to go wrong, and your emotional brain doesn’t have to stay on high alert.
Through guided relaxation and grounding techniques, hypnosis helps you access a calm, resourceful state where your emotional brain isn’t actively trying to protect you from danger. Your therapist will even teach you a simple form of self-hypnosis in your first session so you can access this relaxed state on your own outside of therapy.
Step 2: Accessing the emotional brain.
Once your mind and body feel more at ease, we can reach the emotional brain in a way that helps it absorb new perspectives on the patterns you’ve struggled to change. This is where the insight gained from talk therapy alone usually hits a wall: the thinking brain understands the “why,” but the emotional brain isn’t able to learn anything new.
In hypnosis, your emotional brain is more open and flexible, which lets you look at feelings or memories without getting overwhelmed. You won’t be reliving the pain of your past experiences, you’ll be revisiting them knowing you’re safe and supported in the present.
Step 3: Updating the patterns that keep you stuck.
In this state, your emotional brain can begin to release the meanings you made out of your experiences—beliefs like “I’m not safe,” “I’m not enough,” or “I have to stay on guard.” Once we understand the meaning your mind attached to those experiences, you’ll naturally be able to separate the emotional charge from the memory and take in new information your system couldn’t process at the time.
This is where people feel a real shift. They walk away from this process not just understanding themselves differently, but feeling and reacting differently. Over time, these updates create subtle but powerful changes: your body calms down faster, your thoughts feel less chaotic, and you can move through your day more peacefully and confidently.
What we’ll work on
Through therapeutic hypnosis you can…
Reduce the emotional “charge” associated with certain memories or patterns, so the intensity doesn't overpower your sense of agency.
Be able to calm your body more easily, with fewer moments of tension, bracing, or that wired-but-tired feeling that keeps you on edge.
Respond to stressful situations from a place of clarity, instead of reacting automatically based on fear or learned survival strategies.
Experience real relief from the weight of past experiences, so trauma doesn’t dictate how you feel, connect, or move through your day.
Break out of long-standing habits and loops, and approach your daily life with more intention and follow-through.
Actually feel the difference, noticing small shifts in your mood, reactions, and lightness that talking alone couldn’t create.
It’s time to release what no longer serves you.
Heal the root of what’s keeping you stuck & feel the difference for yourself.
FAQS
Common questions about hypnosis
-
Hypnosis can help with things like anxiety, rumination, circular thinking, stress, emotional patterns that feel stuck, and long-standing habits you haven’t been able to shift on your own. It’s especially helpful for people who feel like they’ve “tried everything” or who want to get to the root of what’s been driving their reactions or behavior.
-
Yes—there’s research showing that hypnosis can help with anxiety, rumination, pain, and emotional patterns. It works by helping your mind access a quieter, more open state where deeper shifts can happen. We take the time to explain the science behind what we do together in-session so you understand why it works.
-
Most people describe it as calm, warm, quiet, or like their mind finally relaxes fully. You’re not asleep—you’re simply more focused and less distracted. We guide you into this state gently so it feels natural and comfortable.
-
Definitely not. When you’re under hypnosis, you’re actually aware the whole time and can talk, stop, or shift whenever you want. You won’t do anything you don’t agree to—this isn’t stage hypnosis. We keep the process collaborative so you always feel safe and in charge.
-
Hypnosis isn’t a good fit for people experiencing psychosis or schizophrenia, or for anyone who isn’t interested in making a change—they have to at least want things to feel different for the work to land. It also may not be the right approach if someone feels pressured by others to do it, rather than being open to the process themselves. We can help you figure out whether hypnosis is the right approach for you, and if it’s not, we’ll guide you toward one that fits better.
